Saturday at #newburyraces & #newcastleraces with Bob & Baz

Well having tasted the bitterness of defeat in todays races I have washed it down with curry and a good Cabernet Sauvignon and turned my eyes towards tomorrow’s races. The Newbury Winter Festival and the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle host a lot of Class 1 races tomorrow.

12:45 The Ladbrokes John Francome Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) at Newbury

14:05 The Unibet Fighting Fifth Hurdle Race (Grade 1) at Newcastle

14:25 The Gerry Feilden (Ladbrokes Intermediate) Hurdle (Listed) at Newbury

15:00 The Ladbrokes Trophy Chase (Grade 3) at Newbury

Bet Suggestions for Saturday

BetVictor Gold Cup – Kalondra 1pt to win Kalondra ticks all the boxes even if they become favourite. A course and distance winner who showed better form before falling in the last race at Galway. Wins have been on a range of ground from Good down to Soft.
Rather be has a 7lb advantage over mr Whittaker and taking Cheltenham form I’m going Rather be.
Bob Handicap Chase – Sharp Response 1pt to win Gone up 11lb since last race but won by 9 lengths so has plenty to spare. Won 2 hurdle and 2 chases on ground from Good ranging to Soft.
Ok I don’t think sharp responses run at Carlisle was good enough so I’m opposing with Hobbs and Johnson rock the kasbar. 10lb better off than when second to the young master.
Prestbury Juvenile Race – Never Adapt 1pt to win Fits the bill from the betting guide and even though she is favourite the going being good and a very small field negates this.
The Prestbury Juvenile is a tough race, it is very difficult to oppose Never Adapt as the French form is solid and the yard is clearly astute having brought through Apples Shakira in the past. It seems Montestrel is a key danger and is only up 4lb for running down Quel Destin who followed up after the second. The key outsider is Katpoli who is a Dr R Newlands special and won at Huntingdon despite terrible jumping. May not get away with that at Cheltenham.

Next Race – Old Roan Chase 28th October

A bit of a break until the next race, the Old Roan Chase at Aintree on 28th October.

A little aside, the previous winners of the Novices Chase went onto big things, they include horses such as Cue Card, Finian’s Oscar and Fingal Bay. Therefore, it may well be worth keeping an eye on Spiritofthegames for the future.

The first race up this season that we will look at is the Novices Chase which will run Saturday 13th at Chepstow. Entries need to be in by noon on Monday so we can look at the horses then and see how they match against the betting guides. Please remember that this is a statistical look at races and just looks at the major trends. Nothing beats knowing the horses and the trainers as sometimes the statistics pick out the most improbable horses!
