Bob looks to the past for #ascotraces and #haydockraces

2:05 1965 Chase

Only a fool would bet against Altior on a soft track in which the favourites do quite well. However, the odds are really poor so either give it a miss, put it in as part of larger bet or be brave and put £1 on Solomon Grey at 80/1.

Verdict: ALTIOR to Win

2:25 Stayers Hurdle

Lower weights do better in the larger field and as it is moving towards good the shorter odd horses are better. David Pipe does well here and I hope will continue with that form.

2:40 The Ascot Hurdle

This is going to be between Call Me Lord and If The Cap Fits with the latter I reckon fitting the profile slightly better. Lower odds and favourites do well on soft ground historically as well as Irish horses with a Sadler’s Wells pedigree.

Verdict: IF THE CAP FITS to Win

3:00 Lancashire Chase

I am going to be brave here and plump for Ballyoptic who fits the profile better. An older horse, ridden and placed this season with a Sadler’s Wells pedigree.

Verdict: BALLYOPTIC to Win
